Welcome!

Hi there! I’m Hannah and Bluefish Tax Prep, LLC is my business. I am excited to help you prepare your 2024 individual tax returns, and hope you will reach out to me with any questions you may have about the process!Taxes used to cause me a lot of stress. I prepared my own taxes for many years without knowing a whole lot about anything tax-related. One year, I decided to reach out to a common tax franchise thinking that would just take care of the issue and let me worry about other, more important things…that didn’t really work out! I didn’t feel like my questions were answered or even properly addressed, and I certainly didn’t feel any more knowledgeable or secure about the process. After diving into the world of tax preparation and learning the tools and resources available, I look forward to being able to help taxpayers meet their filing obligations and alleviate the type of stress I used to feel, by thoroughly answering any questions, ensuring accurate and complete returns, and talking through any points of confusion that may exist.I am an AFSP certificate holder, an EA candidate, and a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals.

FAQs

What does the tax preparation process look like?It all begins when you reach out to me! We will have an initial conversation so that I can get a general picture of your tax situation. I will answer any questions you may have. If you are ready to proceed at that point, I will provide you with my engagement letter (scope of services letter) and a tax organizer/questionnaire to help you gather the needed documents. Then, I will work on preparing your returns. I will reach out to you via email or phone call if any additional information is needed, or if I need to ask you any clarifying questions. Once I am confident that the return is accurate and complete, you and I will meet to review the returns. At that point, please ask any and all questions you may have! As the taxpayer, you are still responsible for the contents of the returns, and I want to make sure you leave feeling confident in their accuracy. Finally, I will provide you with a form to sign, which will authorize me to electronically file the returns on your behalf. You will receive all of your original documents back, along with a copy of the signed engagement letter, copies of your returns, and any important payment reminders or instructions. At that point, our work together will be complete for the year, but please be sure to reach out to me if any urgent questions arise, or if you receive any notices or letters from the federal or state tax authorities. How do I know that my information will be protected and secure?I take the ethical responsibilities of tax preparation very seriously, and that includes protecting and securing your personal information. Tax preparers are required to have and adhere to a written information security plan. Additionally, as an EFIN holder (electronic filing identification number), I had to be fingerprinted and pass a suitability check. I will adhere to all regulations and best practices regarding data security and confidentiality, and no one will have access to the information you provide to me except for me. Finally, I will provide you with a way to securely upload your documents if you do not wish to provide paper copies. What types of documents will I need to provide?Don’t worry, I will provide you with a tax organizer/questionnaire to make sure you have everything you need! In general, though, you will need to gather identification documents, prior year returns, any W-2s, 1099s, student loan interest or tuition statements, proof of charitable contributions, mortgage statements, dependent and/or spouse information, and income and deduction records if you have business income. Depending on your specific tax situation, there will be other documents to gather as well, and our initial conversation will help me to point you in the right direction in that regard. How long will the tax preparation process take? This will vary, depending on the complexity of the returns, and depending on how quickly information can be gathered and questions asked and answered. It may take just a day or two, or it may take a few weeks. Rest assured that I will keep you informed throughout the process, and your returns will be filed on time unless we mutually agree that filing an extension is the best course of action.
